2010. Jazz; Tip for fans of Jose James! The Rongetz Foundation really takes off with this set - thanks to soulful vocals from Saunders Sermons, who brings a great blend of jazz and soul to the group! Saunders had a record of his own we really dug - and his inclusion here really fleshes out the Rongetz sound - taking it from a core spiritual jazz impulse into some tighter 21st Century territory - all without losing any of its identity at all! Stephane Ronget's trumpet provides some mighty nice solos - and other players include the legendary David Schnitter on tenor, Jeremy Brun on piano, Orlando Vega on congas, and Jerome Jennings on drums. Not all cuts have vocals, but there's kind of a vocalistic cohesion to the record even when things are instrumental - and titles include "Mischievous Samba", "Broken Doll Beat", "Bulgarian Basketball", "Zap Carniverous", "Simone", and "Congas In Action".
